Rare Petite Cream Jug • Wicker-Wrapped Handle • Fully Hallmarked • 90 Grams

A rare and beautifully distinctive Victorian sterling silver cream jug retailed by Tiffany & Co., Paris, crafted in London in 1890 by Favell, Elliott & Co., the partnership of Rupert Favell and Henry Elliott. Its petite bulbous form features dramatic vertical fluting, a gracefully flared pouring spout and an unusual wicker-wrapped handle that gives the piece wonderful character.

The British hallmarks identify the maker and date: RF over HE for Rupert Favell & Henry Elliott, the lion passant for sterling silver, leopard's head for the London Assay Office, P for 1890, and the separate Queen Victoria duty mark. The underside is additionally stamped TIFFANY & Co PARIS, appearing double-struck, and numbered 4084, with a very faint scratch-engraved number below appearing to read 81216.

Favell & Elliott's partnership ended at the close of 1890, making this an especially interesting example from the final year of their partnership. Combined with the Tiffany & Co. Paris retailer's mark, distinctive wicker-wrapped handle and complete British hallmarking, this is a wonderful piece for collectors of antique Tiffany silver, Victorian sterling and fine English silver.

Condition Report: Very good antique condition with no monograms. The sterling shows minor surface wear consistent with age and use. The wicker-wrapped handle shows age-related wear and some wicker loss, as shown in the last two photographs.
