Royal Worcester • England • 1926 • Soane & Smith, London

True black ground • Raised & tooled gold • 10.25" diameter • Pair

Some antiques survive… Others become heirlooms. These remarkable plates have accomplished both.

An exceptional pair of Royal Worcester porcelain dinner plates dating to 1926, lavishly decorated with an unusual true black ground and elaborate raised gold ornamentation.

Intricate scrolling foliage, floral motifs and richly applied gilt create a dramatic contrast against the black border, while an ornate gold band surrounds the ivory-white center. Even the foot rims are gilded.

Produced in England for distinguished London retailer Soane & Smith, 462 Oxford Street, each plate bears both the retailer's mark and the Royal Worcester factory backstamp with the 1926 date code.
