Representing the height of 18th century French decorative bronze artistry, these architectural fireplace ornaments beautifully blend Rococo elegance with emerging Neoclassical refinement.

An identical pair achieved £42,000 GBP at Christie’s (July 7, 2005, Lot 114), affirming both the rarity and strong collector demand for this sophisticated model (see final photo for reference).

Artistic & Design Details

Each chenet showcases a flaming Athénienne form with a spirally fluted shaft rising from lion-mask monopodia supports — a powerful symbol of strength, protection, and classical authority.

The paneled base is richly ornamented with:
• Berried guilloche borders
• Vine-trailed frieze decoration
• Central Apollo mask within ribbon-tied cartouche
• Draped fruiting garlands

The opposing terminal presents a refined Neoclassical urn with berried finial and scrolling arms rising from an acanthus cup, all supported by finely modeled acanthus-headed acorn feet.

Note: Original iron return arms are not present.
