John Gerletti Cobalt Blue Mosaic Abstract Art Glass Cylinder Vase

Hand-Blown Studio Glass • Artist Signed • Cobalt Blue • Multicolor Mosaic • 13.5”

A spectacular large-scale John Gerletti hand-blown studio art glass vase, showcasing the American glass artist's distinctive use of brilliant color, abstract pattern and expressive glasswork.

Standing an impressive 13 1/2 inches tall, this substantial cylindrical vessel is crafted in rich cobalt blue glass and enveloped in an extraordinary abstract mosaic of color. Layers of soft pink, lavender, pale blue, mint green, white, orange, burgundy and black flow across the surface, interspersed with fine sweeping lines and organic shapes against muted olive-gold tones.

The decoration changes dramatically as the vase is viewed from different angles, creating an almost painterly composition within the glass. Areas of densely clustered color transition into more open passages of abstract linework, while the deep cobalt blue remains beautifully visible around the upper portion, rim and interior.

The interior is equally striking. Looking down into the vessel reveals the remarkable depth and translucency of the cobalt glass along with glimpses of the colorful decoration beneath, emphasizing the dimensional quality of the hand-worked glass.

The underside provides additional evidence of its handcrafted studio-glass construction, featuring a pronounced kick-up and visible pontil mark from the glassmaking process.

A striking statement piece of contemporary American studio glass and a wonderful addition to a collection of John Gerletti, modern art glass or one-of-a-kind hand-blown glass.
