We are pleased to present this elegant Italian bombe commode chest of drawers crafted in the classic Louis XV Rococo style. Produced in Italy during the mid-20th century, this beautifully shaped chest features the iconic serpentine “bombe” silhouette with gracefully curved sides, sculpted drawer fronts, and refined cabriole legs.

The cabinet is finished in richly figured walnut and olivewood veneers arranged in beautifully book matched panels that highlight the natural movement and depth of the wood grain. The top is framed with crossbanded veneer borders, while the drawer fronts display flowing flame-grain patterns that emphasize the sculptural curvature of the piece.

A notable sign of quality craftsmanship is the curved drawer construction, where the drawer boxes themselves follow the bombe contour of the cabinet rather than using straight boxes with applied curved fronts. This more complex method of construction reflects the refined workmanship associated with traditional Italian furniture workshops.

Designed in the classic Louis XV configuration, the commode features two smaller upper drawers above two larger drawers below, offering practical storage while maintaining elegant proportions. The drawers retain their original brass hardware and are constructed with dovetailed drawer boxes, further demonstrating traditional cabinetmaking techniques.

Each drawer is hand-numbered on the underside (#37–40) – a traditional European workshop practice used during assembly to ensure proper fit and alignment within the cabinet.

The graceful bombe form, cabriole legs, and warm walnut and olivewood veneers reflect the enduring influence of French Rococo design interpreted through skilled Italian craftsmanship.
