A beautiful Edwardian sterling silver hand mirror by renowned Birmingham silversmith Henry Matthews, fully hallmarked for Birmingham, England, 1903. Measuring 8" long, this elegant vanity mirror features exceptionally detailed repoussé floral, foliate scroll and lattice decoration covering nearly the entire sterling silver reverse, centered by a vacant cartouche.

Henry Matthews was a respected Birmingham silversmith particularly known for finely crafted silver dressing and vanity articles during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. The hallmarks on this example - H M, Birmingham anchor, lion passant and lowercase “d” date letter - identify the maker, assay office, sterling silver standard and 1903 manufacture.

A wonderfully ornate, fully hallmarked example of Henry Matthews' Edwardian silverwork, equally appealing as a collectible piece of English silver or an elegant addition to an antique vanity collection.

Condition Report: Very good antique condition with no monograms. The sterling silver retains beautiful, crisp decorative detail with normal surface wear and patina consistent with age. There are a few small minor dents, including a shallow crease-like impression to the center cartouche. The original beveled mirror glass has no chips or cracks and displays scattered age-related foxing and deterioration to the reflective silvering, as shown in the photographs.
