We are honored to present this magnificent antique set of five Limoges France dinner plates by Charles Ahrenfeldt, exquisitely decorated with heavy raised gold encrusted filigree over a rich cobalt blue ground. Crafted in Limoges, France circa 1886–1910 and retailed exclusively for C. Reizenstein of Pittsburgh-Allegheny, this refined set embodies the elegance and opulence of the American Gilded Age.
Each plate features an ornate cobalt border lavishly embellished with hand-applied raised gilt scrollwork, florals, lattice panels, and medallion motifs. The gold decoration is thick, dimensional, and luminous — characteristic of high-grade late 19th-century Limoges porcelain produced for elite American retailers.
The pristine white porcelain centers provide striking contrast against the dramatic cobalt and gold rim, creating a timeless statement suitable for formal dining, luxury table styling, or distinguished cabinet display.
This is jeweler-retailed Limoges — not later decorator ware.
Details:
Hallmarks & Authenticity: All five plates retain clear underglaze factory and retailer marks, confirming authenticity and period production.
Backstamps include:
• Green Charles Ahrenfeldt “CA” monogram over LIMOGES FRANCE
• “Limoges Déposé” designation
• Retail mark: “C. Ahrenfeldt Limoges pour C. Reizenstein – Pittsburgh-Allegheny”
• “Patented” notation
These marks date the set to approximately 1886–1910 and confirm manufacture in Limoges, France for export to the American luxury market. All markings are applied under glaze, consistent with original antique production.
Historical Context: Charles Ahrenfeldt operated in Limoges during the late 19th century, producing high-quality porcelain primarily for export. C. Reizenstein of Pittsburgh was a prominent American jeweler and luxury importer serving affluent clientele. Porcelain commissioned through such retailers reflects superior decorative standards and elevated craftsmanship.
Condition Report: Excellent antique condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. Minor surface wear or light gilt wear may be present consistent with age. The raised gold decoration remains strong, dimensional, and visually impressive.
